Why does a conventional doctor become a homeopath?
In 1994, I began studying medicine with full conviction. However, I soon realized that while conventional medicine has very effective methods that, in many cases, can quickly cure current complaints with very potent remedies, it also has its weaknesses. These include, for example,
-
it can hardly prevent the recurrence of diseases;
-
Patients often suffer almost more from the side effects of the medication than from their original symptoms;
-
the symptoms disappear very quickly, but the person hardly feels better afterwards because the disease has found another way and is now producing symptoms in a different place (the disease has been suppressed).
I became aware of homeopathy through reading the book " Journey of an Illness " by Dr. Mohinder Singh Jus. There I found answers to many of my questions and frustrations with conventional medicine: I experience homeopathy as a holistic therapy whose worldview is based on the conviction that illnesses do not occur randomly, neither in terms of type, location, nor time of the illness. Everything has its reasons, its background, and connections. Therefore, the doctor should first understand the person as a whole, that is, their character, their life situation, their fears and problems, and thereby try to identify the cause of why someone has become ill. It is important to incorporate this insight into treatment, because the sustainability of the cure depends largely on whether the root cause of the illness has been eliminated. Moreover, we often suffer from illnesses that we have inherited from our ancestors, and here conventional medicine – unlike homeopathy! – has no way of preventing these from occurring.
When I became a mother, I learned to appreciate homeopathy even more, because especially with (young) children, we often face problems for which conventional medicine offers no or no suitable solution. These include, for example, three-month colic, teething problems, sleep disorders, anxiety, behavioral disorders, social difficulties, exam anxiety, etc. The effectiveness of homeopathic methods was so impressively demonstrated to me that I decided to pursue homeopathy as my profession.
Even as a homeopath, I'm still happy to be able to build on a solid background in conventional medicine. In individual cases, it can be very beneficial to combine both approaches in therapy so that the patient receives the best possible treatment for their symptoms.
